year old female with left breast cancer completed treatment five
years ago. Mammogram eight months ago revealed lumpectomy changes
in the left breast and no abnormalities in the right breast. The
patient had a 1.0 cm indeterminant lesion in the right lobe of the
liver on CT scan performed for abdominal pain. PET/CT was done to
evaluate the liver for possible metastases.
PET/CT
Result
PET/CT images showed a 1.1 cm hypermetabolic mass
in the right breast and the liver was normal.
Outcome
Needle biopsy confirmed infiltrating ductal carcinoma.
The sentinel node biopsy was negative
and the patient underwent lumpectomy and local radiation therapy.
